Journey
Ritesh Umate
My work is on the nomadic community who wanders with no specific form, time and space but an amalgamation of a lifestyle which they share among themselves and unite them. “Changing sky” is a metaphorical viewpoint which represents clouds forming shapes which are not defined but travels in the sky and disappears with nature. I have recreated the character of the clouds through clustered people with their belongings and the roots which always define their existence of the space and time which they live in.
Analogous

‘Change is home’ for nomads whose focus on non-attachment and letting go of everything you have, clicked me with a realization of how we live in an urban space with glittering lifestyle and drama of being in a society. Coming from a rural life, my observation derived as everything is temporary and nothing is yours. The mass luggage which I have shown, merged with their belonging is a metaphorical approach to express the stability of their temporary existence which still gives them the sensation of permanence. The people are shown in traditional attire which depicts the roots of Indian culture. Some wearing glasses, women almost covering themselves with jewellery as their identification, and the faces are shown blank with no features which represent the neutrality of their existence and lifestyle.

The choice of my medium meets the conventional representation of the value they express which is not criticized but is accepted. I have used ball pen which is easily available and anyone from any background can access it, use it and recycle it. The medium expresses the intense ideology of a wanderer forming to express in simplicity.
