Walking on the Edge
Dipen Ujeniya
The Journey from my hometown to this institution offered me a diasporic viewpoint that gets manifested in my visuals. The local trains acted as the perfect vehicle towards this manifestation offering me layers of economic struggle, physical and mental adjustments juxtaposed with the aspect of the movement.
Walking on the Edge
It is a journey towards the struggle for survival shown through the manipulated human bodies (elongated and twisted) constantly trying to adjust themselves with the luggage (sometimes failing to differentiate themselves) and the cramped up space within the frame. The never-ending crowd endures, lying still like dead bodies even within the movement, Their gestures of struggle become apparent as they travel within the vicious circle of poverty and rat race.

The visual that has developed on the canvas uses oil and charcoal as a medium to manifest the same. They create layers by repetitive and spontaneous lines and dusky colours, resonating movements that get metamorphosed through my memory.
